Cambridge Finance

This term’s session will introduce Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Prof. Hans Baumgartner will give an overview of the method and compare and contrast it to other common methods (e.g. regression analysis). This session is ideal for all those who are new to SEM and want to understand what this method can offer. Participants will leave the seminar equipped to understand and assess SEM-papers, and maybe even with a whetted appetite for using the method in their own research.

Prof. Hans Baumgartner (Ph.D., Stanford University) is the Smeal Professor of Marketing in the Smeal College of Business at the Pennsylvania State University. His research interests are in the areas of consumer behavior and research methodology. He has published articles on these topics in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Journal of Economic Literature. He is a past president of the Society for Consumer Psychology and twice served as associate editor of the Journal of Consumer Research. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Research in Marketing and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and several European journals. He is currently enjoying a sabbatical year at the Judge Business School.

Methods Forum

The Methods Forum offers a platform for faculty and students to discuss the application of research methods. It consists of seminars that (1) provide an introduction to the practicalities of using different methods in research projects, and (2) enable participants to debate these methods and possible improvements to them.

Seminars take place once a term and are led by faculty members and PhD students.
