Title: CEO reputation and internal corporate governance

Abstract: This study examines how CEO reputation affects internal governance strength in firms. Drawing from several streams of research in economics, finance, and accounting, I generate several competing hypotheses on this relation. Using several proxies for CEO reputation, I find a U-shaped relation between CEO reputation and governance strength along many governance dimensions. This study makes a contribution to the literature by enhancing our understanding of the observed heterogeneity in corporate governance strength across firms.
